ADDIS ABABA GETAWAY: PART 4

Kuriftu Resort and Spa, Bishoftu

It took about an hour's drive to Bishoftu, a town situated southeast of Addis Ababa. Formerly known as Debre Zeyit, Bishoftu's charm is in the five crater lakes and mountains encompassing the town.

Bishoftu is considered a getaway for Addis Ababa residents to recharge their batteries and an up and coming tourist destination.

Bishoftu offers hiking, bird watching, art galleries and several resorts. It is an excellent location for a relaxing weekend with the family, friends, or self to relax and take a pause on the nonstop busyness of life.

I arrived at Kuriftu Resort and Spa at midday and was warmly received and given a tour around the resort, by a sweet staff member named Kidusan. Breathtaking landscapes surround the lodge, and an addition to the landscape, is the natural wonder of Lake Kuriftu.

The resort includes 89 lakefront view rooms, a full-service spa, a cultural village, a water park, kayaking, swimming pool and cinema. The restaurants have a great selection of delicious food from traditional Ethiopian food to Continental and other variations.

The resort is lovely; from the sound of the birds in the early morning to the large and comfortable rooms, delicious food and spectacular views. I wanted to prolong my stay because it was an unexpected paradise. There's a complimentary massage included in the room price which will feel heavenly after a day of hiking, kayaking or sightseeing.

It is a place where a family can reconnect, or a couple who want to spend some quality time together or even a honeymoon destination. Sitting by the pool, soaking up the sun, the views with a drink in hand, is a lovely way to spend a few days.

Close to the resort is Kuriftu Water Park. Complete with water slides, water houses, a wave pool, a food court and a circus tent, this is a place to bring your family. While your children are having fun at the water park, parents can walk through the cultural village and enjoy a coffee or browse through the shops selling hand-made Ethiopian crafts from handbags to shoes.

This was a fantastic trip that was much needed and had me planning a future trip back to Ethiopia because there is so much more I want to see and discover. The Lalibela rock-hewn churches, Simien Mountains National Park, the Lake Tana monasteries, Gondar castles, the obelisks in Axum and the tribes of the Omo Valley are but a few of the many places I would love to visit.

Luxury hotels that make you feel like royalty, spas to make you feel refreshed, parks with culture, history and architecture for families to experience. At Entoto, you get to combine both outdoors activities that all families will love and also enjoy the luxury of a spa and massage treatment.

The Resorts and spas give you a one of a kind experience that will change your perspective on how you can enjoy life in Addis Ababa. This is a dream vacation that everyone deserves.

I hope this article has inspired you to plan your own Addis Ababa getaway. For more information on the tour, email Jessica at kuriftu2africa@gmail.com she will help you plan a tour to suit a couple, a family or like me, a solo traveller.
